About This Overlook
Desert View is the easternmost viewpoint on Grand Canyon's South Rim, offering expansive views that include the Painted Desert and the Colorado River. The site is famous for the historic Desert View Watchtower, a 70-foot stone tower designed by architect Mary Colter in 1932 and built to resemble ancestral Puebloan watchtowers. The observation deck provides 360-degree views and the interior features murals by Hopi artist Fred Kabotie.
