About This Overlook
Zabriskie Point is one of the most photographed locations in Death Valley National Park, featuring a dramatic landscape of golden badlands eroded into waves and ridges. The viewpoint is named after Christian Zabriskie, a longtime executive of the Pacific Coast Borax Company. The sedimentary formations were deposited in ancient Furnace Creek Lake between 5 and 14 million years ago. At sunrise, the badlands glow in warm amber and gold tones that have made this a mandatory stop for photographers.
