About This Overlook
Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous paved road in the United States, climbing to over 12,000 feet as it crosses Rocky Mountain National Park. The summit area offers above-treeline views of the alpine tundra ecosystem, with panoramic vistas of snowcapped peaks, glacial valleys, and the vast expanse of the Continental Divide. The road was built in the 1930s and follows an ancient Ute trail across the mountains.
