About This Overlook
Grandfather Mountain is home to the famous Mile High Swinging Bridge, a 228-foot suspension footbridge connecting two peaks at an elevation of exactly one mile. Built in 1952, the bridge sways in the wind but is firmly anchored to the rock. The mountain offers stunning panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is part of a UNESCO International Biosphere Reserve. The nature park also features wildlife habitats with native black bears, cougars, and eagles.
