About This Overlook
Badlands National Park features some of the world's richest fossil beds and dramatically eroded buttes, pinnacles, and spires. The landscape was formed over millions of years by deposition and erosion, revealing colorful layers of sediment. Native Americans called it 'mako sica' meaning bad land.
