About This Overlook
Angels Landing is one of the most famous hikes in the American national park system, ascending 1,488 feet over 2.5 miles to a narrow rock fin with sheer 1,000-foot drops on both sides. The final half-mile follows a knife-edge ridge with chains bolted into the rock for safety. The summit offers unparalleled views of Zion Canyon and was named by a Methodist minister in 1916 who declared only an angel could land on such a peak. A permit is now required for safety.
