About This Overlook
Artist Point provides what many consider the most spectacular view in Yellowstone National Park—a sweeping vista of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and the 308-foot Lower Falls. The name honors the landscape painters who captured this view in the 1800s, helping build public support for establishing Yellowstone as the world's first national park. The canyon's yellow, orange, and red walls are colored by iron compounds in the rhyolite rock.
